History

The design studio Peter Rentmeister, Krefeld's longest standing studio for Jacquard-designs, was founded in 1897 by the grandfather of today's company owner. It designed and produced weaving cards for the silk industry in Krefeld as well as for the domestic and international demands for Jacquard-products in all their variety.

During the Twenties and Thirties of the last century, a large number of passenger liners and public buildings were furnished with Rentmeister-designed fabrics (photo: Eurodam 2008).

Due to the good reputation of the studio, Peter Rentmeister's son Heinz was able to carry on the business in second generation from 1936.

In 1970 Gisbert Rentmeister followed in third generation. He continued expanding the studio. During the zenith of Jacquard- weaving the company employed twelve designers, pattern drafters and card cutters and supplied weaving mills in Germany and abroad with designs for cravats, scarves, tapestry and upholstery fabrics as well as for terry-cloth or table- and bedlinen.

In 1983 Gisbert Rentmeister chose to design his own high-value collection of upholstery fabrics and to produce it himself. This meant to be the right decision: as the magnificent textiles in various qualities and constructions were easily sold throughout the world and the looms were used to capacity, the demand for weaving cards started to decrease as a consequence of digital technology.

Today our own studio makes it possible to adapt to a client's special demands and is therefore the base of highest flexibility.
